The first qualifying sessions of the weekend at the Nürburgring took place on a track made very wet by light but continuous rain on the track since the beginning of the afternoon. In its conditions, Lando Norris (Carlin) took the opportunity to crush the competition with a pole in 1'35''601, almost a second faster than Jake Hughes (Hitech GP) in 1'36''508. The Briton is ahead of his compatriot Callum Ilott (Prema Powerteam).

For his first qualifications in F3, Sacha fenestraz (Carlin) did very well with a fourth place, 1”2 behind his teammate and 0”2 ahead of Maximilian Günther (Prema Powerteam). Ralf Aron (Hitech GP) is 6e ahead of Jehan Daruvala (Carlin) and Joey Mawson (VAR). The Hitechs of Nikita mazepin and Tadasuke Makino complete the top 10. For his freelance with Van Amersfoort, the Belgian Max Defourny fails at the gates of the top 10 in 11th position.
