At the end of the second qualifying session, the accident of David Beckmann (Motopark) had dashed the hopes of improvement of a majority of drivers behind him. However, several of them managed to improve their time under the yellow flag and found themselves penalized.

Among them is Lando Norris (Carlin) who therefore loses the gain of pole position for the second race of the weekend to the benefit of Callum ilott (Prema). Jake Hughes (Hitech GP) is promoted to the second row ahead of his compatriot from Carlin. Ferdinand Habsburg (Carlin), also penalized, is 4e ahead of Harrison Newey (Van Amersfoort) who gained 4 places in the penalty game.

The other drivers who fell two places are Maximilian Günther (Prema) 7e, Nikita mazepin (Hitech) 8e, Guan Yu Zhou (Prema) 9e, Ralf Aron (Hitech GP) 12e, Marino Sato (Motopark) 18e and Ameya Vaidyanathan (Carlin) 19e.
