The Macau Grand Prix qualifying race F3, under a radiant sun, smiled at Alex Lynn. The Briton from Prema Powerteam took the lead on the first lap to the detriment of his teammate and polesitter Raffaele Marciello and Felix Rosenqvist (Mücke). The 2012 winner Antonio Felix Da Costa (Carlin) took 4th place ahead of Pipo Derani (Fortec), Alex Sims (Three Bond by T-Sport), Jordan King (Carlin) and Will Buller (Fortec). The only notable victim from the front rows was the Austrian Lucas Auer (Prema), victim of a small collision at the restart of the 3rd lap, after the neutralization of the first lap caused by contact between Tincknell (Carlin) and Van de Laar (Mücke ).

Already a brilliant rookie from Macau and just as much in F3, the Frenchman Esteban Ocon (Prema) produced a first race made of clairvoyance and speed. The Lotus foal F1 Junior Team, which started 15th, was 11th on the first pass. After the restart, he moved to 10th position on the 3rd lap. Overtaken by Carlos Sainz Jr in the 5th loop, he managed to regain his place in the top ten by overtaking Monegasque Stefano Coletti in the 8th of 10 laps. Ocon set the 6th best time in the race, only 22/100th of the best time signed by Rosenqvist.
