On home soil, Giandomenico Basso (Skoda Fabia R5) took control of the Rally di Roma Capitale in Italy, counting for the European Rally Championship, at the end of the first stage this Saturday.

The double IRC champion 2006 – 2009 took advantage of the numerous setbacks of his rivals, starting with Nikolay Gryazin (Skoda Fabia R5), first leader of the event after dominating SS1, but went off the road in SS2.

The Russian hit a tree and will not be able to leave tomorrow, the rollbar having been hit. Another favorite who made a mistake, Luca Rossetti (Citroën C3 R5), then third but who shot straight into SS4, victim of a broken rim.

It is ultimately Alexey Luyanuk who inherits second place this evening with his Citroën C3 R5, 36″3 behind leader Basso. Simone Campedelli (Ford Fiesta R5), despite a puncture in SS2, returned to third position at 1'01”. Filip Mares (Skoda Fabia R5) and Norbert Herczig (Volkswagen Polo R5) complete the top 5 at 1'07" and 1'40".

Chris Ingram places his Skoda Fabia R5 in sixth position ahead of Andrea Crugnola (Skoda Fabia R5), who led the race for a time, but a puncture on SS4 caused the Italian to lose contact.
