ERC will not go to Azores Rally in 2023

This is one of the most beautiful events on the European rally calendar. But the Azores Rally will not appear on the program of theERC in 2023, according to information given by the championship promoter, WRC Promote. In question, the cost of such a trip for the teams, the Portuguese islands being 1 km west of Lisbon.

“Despite the efforts of the Azores Rally Organizing Committee to ensure free sea and air transport for the teams, the latter still consider that the immobilization is too long compared to other races in the championship, according to the promoter,” write the Portuguese organizers.

This announcement is surprising given that the 57th edition of the Azores Rally appeared in the first drafts of the 2023 and 2024 seasons. A proposal which was " under negotiation " indicate the organizers.

“We will continue to work on next year's edition, the 57th, in order to guarantee, with our partners, an event with the quality recognized for it, hoping, in the future, to be part of the best European rally competition. »
