It is a sacrifice that was accomplished Zelindo Melegari. The boss of the Movisport ERC2 team has withdrawn his name from the entries in rally of Rome (Italy, July 20-22) in order to make way for Giandomenico Basso. The double European Rally Champion (in 2006 and 2009) did not have the necessary budget to compete in his national rally.
However, Giandomenico Basso (also IRC champion in 2006) is part of Zelindo Melegari's management company. The latter gave him his place behind the wheel of the Skoda Fabia R5. “It's a tough decision after racing in the first four rounds, recognizes Zelindo Melegari. But to put the interests of the team first, I had to step aside to give Giandomenico the best opportunity. »
“I am very grateful to Zelindo and the team, continues Basso, aged 44. I am happy to be back in ERC ; I know the competition will be tough but I hope my experience will give me a chance of victory. »
