Gareth Roberts, teammate of Craig Breen, died in a road accident during SS8 of the Targa Florio, round of the IRC championship. Aged 24, the young Welshman started running in May 2004. He became the teammate of the Irishman, the great hope of the rally, in 2010. Craig Breen and Gareth Roberts competed in two IRC rounds together in 2012 aboard a Peugeot 207 S2000 from the French Saintéloc team. For the rally in Sicily, they signed up at the last minute for a 207 from the Italian team HRT Motorsport.
