FR 3.5 – Marco Sorensen confirms at Red Bull Ring

Marco Sorensen (Lotus) seized his chance by dominating the first Formula race Renault 3.5 Series au Red Bull Ring. The Dane dominated the event from start to finish to secure his first success of the season, his second in the discipline after his victory at Spa-Francorchamps last year. Despite the two interventions of the safety car, the driver of the car No. 9 showed himself above the fray. Nigel Melker (Tech 1 Racing) took second place after taking the lead from Kevin Magnussen (Dams) at lights out. The Dutchman signs his best result of the year after reaching the podium at Spa-Francorchamps and Moscow.

Kevin Magnussen regains the lead of the Championship with a 12-point lead over his direct rival Stoffel Vandoorne (Fortec Motorsports). The resident of the Young Driver Development Program McLaren, who had qualified sixth on the grid, quickly fell down the standings before returning to the pits only to retire following a hydraulic pressure problem. Will Stevens (P1 by Strakka Racing) and Arthur Pic (AV Formula) complete the top five ahead of William Buller (Zeta Corse) who managed to take the advantage over Antonio Félix da Costa (Arden Caterham).

Sergey Sirotkin (ISR) and Norma Nato (Dams) were fighting for seventh place before colliding, causing the second interruption of the event. Marlon Stöckinger (Lotus) finished in eighth place ahead of André negrao (International Draco Racing) and Jazeman Jaafar (Carlin) who has come back well from his last position on the grid.
