Alexander albon (KTR) managed to be the fastest driver in both Eurocup Formula qualifying sessions Renault 2.0 at Spielberg. The Thai completed a lap in 1'30"920 with only seven hundredths ahead of his teammate Ignazio d'Agosto. Pierre Gasly (Tech 1 Racing) could only take fifth position after seeing his effort cut short by a red flag at the end of the session following Marcos Siebert (Jenzer Motorsport) going off the track. However, the Frenchman will have to drop five places on the grid following a penalty imposed during the last round in Moscow.
The drivers participating in the first qualifying session are slightly further behind after light rain briefly fell on the track. William Vermont set the best time in the first group with a lap completed in 1'31"251, a tenth ahead of Oscar Tunjo (Josef Kaufmann Racing). Fortec Motorsports drivers Ed Jones and Jack Aitken follow ahead of Championship leader Oliver Rowland (Manor MP Motorsport).
