FR3.5 – Stoffel Vandoorne on pole at Monza

Stoffel Vandoorne didn't take much time to make his mark in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series. The Fortec driver took the first pole of the season at Monza on a track with changing conditions.

FR3.5 – Stoffel Vandoorne on pole at Monza

First qualifying and first pole for Stoffel Vandoorne who nevertheless encountered difficult conditions on a track which dried out as the session progressed and which only allowed the drivers to put on slicks in the final minutes. With a time of 1'45"416, the resident of the young drivers program of McLaren managed at the last minute to set the best time of the session before the session was interrupted by a red flag following an accident by Lucas Foresti (SMP Racing by Comtec Racing).

The reigning Eurocup Formula champion Renault 2.0 will start in front of Sergey Sirotkin and Christophe Zanella, the two drivers from the ISR team who failed several tenths behind the Belgian. Antonio Félix da Costa (Arden Caterham), a serious contender this season, completes the second row of the grid. Daniil Move (SMP Racing by Comtec Racing) completes the top 5 ahead of Nikolay Martsenko (Pons Racing), Kevin Magnussen (Dams) André negrao (International Draco Racing), Will Stevens (P1 Motorsport), Oliver Webb (Fortec Motorsports) and Jazeman Jaafar (Carlin).

Norman Nato (Dams) is the first Frenchman on the starting grid for Race 1 after setting the 13th fastest time behind Lucas Foresti. His compatriots are further away since Arthur Pic (AV Formula) will only start from 21st place behind Emmanuel Piget (Zeta Corse).

Race 1 will be followed live from 13 p.m. on Eurosport.
