FR3.5 – Vandoorne concludes with the lap record

After competing in the first two days of testing at Dams, Stoffel Vandoorne joined Fortec Motorsports for the final laps at Motorland Aragon. Niccolo Schiro, winner of the European F3 Open, evolved within Tech 1 Racing, Dimitri Suranovich was at P1 Motorsport and Lucas Foresti at AV Formula. Nick Yelloly (Pons Racing) and Nico Müller (International Draco Racing) made their return to the wheel of Formula Renault 3.5. Noman Nato and Carlos Sainz Jr. formed the duo of the day at Dams. Finally, the Finnish Mattias Laine took over from Antonio Felix da Costa at Arden Caterham.

The track conditions were ideal on Friday and the drivers were having a blast. The end of the day turned into a real qualifying session. Marco Sorensen charged then Carlos Sainz Jr. and Nico Müller responded. But Stoffel Vandoorne, advised by Robin Frijns, could not stop there. The Belgian set off again in the final minutes and improved one after the other to finally set the Formula Renault 3.5 lap record on this circuit, in 1:39:085. Stoffel Vandoorne thus ended the year in first place, ahead of Carlos Sainz Jr. and Nico Müller. ?It?s very good to end the year like this, and it?s quite nice to beat Robin?s record with his car, before his eyes. It was not easy because I had an oil leak this afternoon. So I drove less than expected. Now the hardest part remains, choosing the right team! It is certain that this result will be important in our choice, but that is not everything, there are many other parameters to take into account. »
