The Macau Grand Prix is back and stronger than ever! After three years compromised by the Covid-19 pandemic, the crazy Macanese event is returning to its traditional format with a big show announced. The World Cup Formula 3 and the FIA GT are back in the ancient Portuguese city.

This is perhaps the last unmissable event in the motorsport world that has not yet had a “normal” edition in three years and the appearance of the Coronavirus. In the meantime, the Macau Grand Prix never stopped. There have been editions in 2020, 2021 and 2022, but never in its most prestigious form: namely that which serves as the Formula 3 world championship.

During this period of pandemic, the meeting survived as best it could, because it was inconceivable to see such a monument disappear. If interest was less than before due to the context, the national championships were responsible for enlivening the route of the bay of the China Sea with the appearance of a few rare drivers from the Old Continent like Maro Engel, winner in 2022 ahead of Edoardo Mortara.

But now, since the last edition, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the end of the state of global health emergency last May, opening the doors wide to pilots from around the world, freed from all constraints of travel. Thus, this 70th edition (November 16-19) was full of its most exclusive categories such as GT3 and especially Formula 3, the last appearance of which on the Macanese streets dates back to 2019. Now the Macau Grand Prix is preparing for its return to normal.

In Formula 3, we even find drivers who have not driven in the category for a very long time and who can be classified as professionals, such as Marcus Armstrong (MP Motorsport) now engaged full-time in IndyCar with Chip Ganassi, or double winner Dan Ticktum (Carlin), about to begin his third campaign of Formula E. But behind the experienced, the young shoots also want to make a place for themselves. There “Covid generation” who has never been able to compete in Macau does not come to joke, as evidenced by the presence of the trio of Prema, Dino Beganovic – Gabriele Mini – Paul Aron, Josep María Martí (Campos), Luke Browning (Hitech GP) or even the Habs Isack Hadjar (Hitech GP, see following pages), who did not refuse the offer to ride in the Macanese streets while he is preparing to double down in Formula 2.

We must also not forget GT3, whose field is full of renowned drivers for the return of the FIA GT World Cup. It's simple, all the previous winners will be at the start as well as Edoardo Mortara (7 times winner, F3 and GT3 combined) with Audi as well as Augusto Farfus (BMW), Raffaele Marciello (Mercedes), Maro Engel (Mercedes) et Laurens Vanthoor (Porsche). Les Français Jules Gounon (Mercedes), dont il s’agit de la première apparition sur le tracé de Guia, ou encore Kevin Estre tenteront eux aussi de se mêler à la lutte pour la victoire.
