Frank Stippler proves that he has lost none of his mastery at the Nürburgring since he took pole in the 24 Hour race at the wheel of the Audi R8 LMS ultra of Phoenix Racing with whom he won the last year. The local driver, who shares the No. 4 with Michael Ammermüller, Ferndinand Stuck and Johannes Stuck, set the best lap in the top 40 with a time of 8'17"212. Pedro Lamy was the closest behind the wheel of theAston Martin Vantage n°7 (Lamy-Turner-Mücke-Simonsen) failing at only 1”150. Chris Mamerow completes the top three in the No. 2 Audi of Team Mamerow (Mamerow-Basseng-Rast-Mutsch) with less than two seconds behind the reference time.
Richard Lietz places first Porsche 911 GT3 R in fourth place with the #50 from Manthey Racing (Holzer-Tandy-Bergmeister-Lietz) ahead of the #1 Audi from Phoenix Racing (Rockenfeller-Fässler-Stippler-Winkelhock) on the starting grid, the Audi driver in DTM traveling to take part in the race after the Brands Hatch event where he will start on pole. Sean Edwards places first Mercedes SLS AMG GT3, the No. 9 Black Falcon (Schneider-Bleekemolen-Edwards-Thiim), in sixth position. Maxime Martin took seventh time in the Marc VDS Racing BMW Z4 (Martin-Piccini-Buurman-Göransson).
The 24 Hours of the Nürburgring will exceptionally be contested from Sunday to Monday.
