City Challenge – Hexis and Makowiecki shine in Baku

The second day of the City Challenge, in the streets of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, had as its main attraction the two Sprint Races reserved for GTs. Two events which allowed the Hexis Racing team to stand out. The Nîmes team actually won the first race thanks to the McLaren MP4-12C piloted by Frédéric Makowiecki. The Frenchman, 1 FIA GT2012 world vice-champion, finished ahead of the Porsche 911 GT3 R Mühlner Motorsport of Briton Sean Edwards, and the second McLaren MP4-12C of the team led by Philippe Dumas, and then driven by Rob Bell.

A red flag brought out after the accident of Swiss Jürg Aeberhard prevented Hexis Racing from achieving the double in race 2. At the time of the definitive interruption, the two French McLaren MP4-12Cs, respectively in the hands of Portuguese Alvaro Parente and Dutchman Stef Dusseldorp were second and third behind the Vita4One Racing BMW Z4 driven by Mathias Lauda, declared winner.

Note that Hexis had already, a few moments earlier, struck a major blow. Indeed, Frédéric Makowiecki (1'03"750) and Stef Dusseldorp (1'03"532) allowed themselves to set the best times in the two qualifying sessions. It remains to be confirmed today during the main races.
