A new Touareg for VW at the Dakar

Next January, Argentina and Chile will once again host the Dakar, the flagship event of the World Cup. Rally-Raid. In order to achieve a third consecutive victory on the South American continent, VW has decided to launch the Race Touraeg 3, an evolution of the title-winning double model.

On the program: a profound evolution of aerodynamics, following the evolution of the production model. The silhouette should be even more athletic than the old one. The engine, like the suspensions and the chassis, will remain the same, namely a TDI with an approximate power of 300 hp introduced in 2005.

“The evolution of the car in Race Touareg 3 represents a logical step with the aim of achieving this objective of winning the Dakar for the third consecutive year, explains VW Motorsport Director Kris Niessen. With new aerodynamics, the Race Touareg will be even more spectacular than before, with aspects reminiscent of the design of the new production model. For the rest we continue to trust this package which is more than satisfactory in terms of performance and reliability.”

The Race Touareg 3 will therefore not really be a new car. A test session in Morocco at the end of the month will constitute the first stage of the development program before the car is revealed in August. For the first appearance in competition, you will have to wait until the Silk Way Rally, an event taking place in Russia and which will start in St Petersburg on September 11. A race which will constitute a dress rehearsal before the Dakar.
