He built his reputation in Japan before achieving glory in Sarthe with Audi. Retired from competition, but not retired from driving, the Norman, based in Gordes in Vaucluse, invites us on the road to his new life, which will return to Le Mans. Back to the future, in a Ferrari 512BB.

Hello Benoît. We expected to see you behind the wheel of an Audi, and it's a Ferrari 512BB that you are offering us for this carpooling...

It was the first collector's car I bought, for several reasons. It is quite exceptional, since it only has 26 original kilometers. It is the first Ferrari with a central rear engine, it is equipped with the famous flat V000. I love its Weber triple-barrel carburettors... And because it's a car that I literally fell in love with! You don't necessarily expect it, but it's damn effective. With André Lotterer (friend and former teammate at Audi Sport. Editor's note), we have had several challenges – he with a modern sports car and me with her – on the roads around Gordes, and I can tell you that it absorbs the roughness of the road well. She has good grip, good balance... André was working to stay in front. (Laughs) And then, she is discreet, not “have you seen me”. People smile and give a thumbs up when they see her.

Is this 512BB the origin of this luxury car guarding and maintenance complex which is the starting point of our carpooling? 

No, it's more the result of meetings linked to Gordes, where I live, in this region of Lubéron which is home to many fans of beautiful cars. I often found myself at dinners where guests were talking to me about their prestigious cars, because I was a driver. I didn't know much about collector vehicles at the time. They explained to me that it was complicated, because theirs wouldn't start when they came to spend a few days in the region, due to a breakdown or something else. I realized that many people who owned these beautiful cars were never able to enjoy them and ended up selling them. This is how the idea came to me to offer a real service.
