The affair caused a stir during the Australian Touring Championship break. Following an internal disagreement with his reigning champion team, Brodie Kostecki announced his withdrawal, withdrawing from the start of the 2024 Supercars season. If the reasons did not immediately filter through, it was quickly confirmed that it was a quarrel based on a contractual disagreement.
Still under contract with Erebus until the end of 2024, the reigning champion would have demanded an immediate departure, he who had not hidden his desire to continue his career in the United States like Shane van Gisbergen or Scott McLaughlin, also titled in Australia. This inevitably caused a major media storm in addition to the consequences on the team. Shortly after Brodie Kostecki's intentions were announced, Erebus Motorsport saw its title sponsor (Coca-cola Australia) jump ship.
On the sporting side, it was Todd Hazelwood who took charge of the Camaro ZL1-1LE both in Bathurst for the opening round and in Melbourne more recently. Once the service has been rendered, the outgoing champion will make his return behind the wheel during the next round held in New Zealand on the Taupo circuit (April 19-21).
This new seems to delight the pilot and his team. Kostecki clarified that he was happy to get back behind the wheel and that he had to concentrate on his health, thus justifying his absence. The mystery remains over this quarrel. The driver of the No. 1 Camaro will once again be able to cause trouble in the Supercars peloton dominated by Triple Eight Engineering.
