India arrives in Asian Le Mans Series. When the entry list was published last week, the name of Racing Team India appeared, which will field an Oreca 07 LMP2 in all four rounds of the series. An unknown team, which we have never seen in international endurance, let alone in LMP2.
In reality, the team is led by Gautam Singhania, driver and member of the FIA Motor Sport Council. With the help of the Algarve Pro Racing structure, which will provide technical support, Racing Team India will field a 100% Indian crew to win an invitation to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Narain Karthikeyan, 43, will be its spearhead. The Indian was the first pilot from his country to access the Formula 1, with Jordan in particular in the mid-2000s. We subsequently saw him at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a private Audi R10 TDI in 2009 before he moved to Super Formula and Super GT in Japan since 2014.
He will be accompanied by 45-year-old Indian-American gentleman Naveen Rao, champion ofIMSA Prototype Challenge LMP3 this season and Arjun Maini, 23, who drove in Formula 2 before debuting in endurance this season in the European Le Mans series under the colors of Algarve Pro Racing.
