4H Abu Dhabi – H+1: Red flag after an accident between the #55 Proton and the #8 Porsche

The first hour of these 4H of Abu Dhabi was, like the day before, very eventful with a red flag displayed following a violent collision between the No. 55 Proton Competition and the No. 8 Porsche EBM.

Clearly, the Yas Marina circuit is causing very lively races this season in Asian Le Mans Series! Like Race 1, won by Crowdstrike Racing by APR on Saturday, the start of Race 2 of the 4H Abu Dhabi was spectacular, in every sense of the word. And it was the victorious car the day before which suffered the first incident of the day.

The No. 4 Crowdstrike Racing by APR of George Kurtz, sandwiched at turn 2 with the No. 55 Proton Competition (subsequently penalized with a drive through for this incident), came into contact with the AF Corse n °83 from François Perrodo, sending the two Orecas into a spin! The Frenchman, victim of a puncture, damaged the entire left rear part of his prototype.

In the confusion after this collision at the front of the peloton, the No. 58 Ligier of the GG Classic Cars team was hit from behind and collected the Mercedes – Getspeed n°9 in its drift, while the COOL Racing n°47 lost its rear wing. The stewards were obviously forced to deploy the safety car after only a few seconds of racing...

At the restart, the 99 Racing retained the advantage of its pole position... for only one lap, before diving into the pits to respect a stop-and-go penalty imposed following its accident under Safety Car during Race 1 on Saturday. It was the No. 90 TF Sport of Salih Yoluc which took control of the event. A race which seemed to be decreasing in intensity... before a big clash between the No. 55 Proton Competition of Paul-Loup Chatin and the Porsche EBM n°8 of Setiawan Santoso at turn 11 once again disrupts the progress of these 4H of Abu Dhabi.

The French driver, thinking the door was opened by the Indonesian, dove to the inside of turn 11 before the Porsche driver fell back on the rope and hit the Oreca 07 at high speed. If both cars finished their race in the Tec Pro, both drivers emerged unscathed, but shaken by the accident. The commissioners had no choice but to raise the red flag to repair the damage.

The ranking is therefore not representative of the race dynamics one hour after the start. If the Algarve Pro Racing n°25 is in the lead in the points, the latter had not yet stopped, and the control of the race virtually returns to the TF Sport n°90. COOL Racing was in the lead in LMcP3 with the #17 Ligier of Alexander Bukhantsov, while the #91 PureRxcing had just taken the lead in GT thanks to Alexander Malykhin.
