The Asian Le Mans Series heads to Abu Dhabi in 2021

The Asian Le Mans Series (Asian LMS) is fighting against the repercussions of the coronavirus. The endurance championship had initially planned a 2020-21 season in three different countries (Malaysia, Thailand and Abu Dhabi). Finally, the competition will take place entirely on the Yas Marina grounds.

Indeed, four races of four hours each will be organized on two different routes, combining daytime and nighttime conditions. “This year has been unprecedented for all of us, recognizes Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO), organizer of the discipline.

The implementation of this new calendar for the Asian Le Mans Series is not a decision that we have taken lightly. This timeline takes into consideration the challenges we have and presents an exciting alternative. It offers new opportunities for the series as it continues the strong growth seen in recent years. I look forward to continued growth and a season full of close racing. »

Cyrille Taesch Wahlen, general director of the Asian Le Mans Series, discusses this modification. “2020 posed significant challenges for us all due to the global impact of Covid-19. It is our responsibility to respond to these challenges in a way that not only ensures the health and safety of everyone involved, but also protects the sport and our teams.

Every decision we make must strike the right balance, delivering exciting and enjoyable racing in a cost-effective manner, without compromising the quality of our series. My thanks also go to all our stakeholders for their patience and support for this change. We look forward to welcoming them to Abu Dhabi in February! »
