It's now official, the French Historic Circuit Championship will benefit from a major change next year. The regulations for the Historic Tour 2023 will ratify the creation of three classifications instead of the two in force since the inaugural season of 2015. If the “Single-seater/Protos” classification remains unchanged, that of the “GT/Tourism” will be split into two in fading away in favor of the “GT/Tourism Pre-1990” and “GT/Tourism Post-1990” categories.
« Last year, nearly 250 drivers were classified in this GT/Tourism category which brought together all the periods from 1950 to 1997, not without some disparities between the number of entrants for the different trophies and challenges concerned, underlines Laurent Vallery-Masson, the promoter of the French Championship. Splitting it in two will allow a distribution between the oldest cars corresponding to the PTH reference period (pre-1990), which we wish to promote, and the most recent while respecting automotive history. More generally, this will also rebalance everyone's chances with a number of drivers classified close to 120 in each of the three championships.
Calendar-wise, the Historic Tour 2023 returns to a five-round format. The Dijon Prenois circuit will kick off at the beginning of May, while the Val de Vienne circuit will host the epilogue in October. In the meantime, the second stage will take place on the Albi circuit, to which HVM Racing is keen to provide its support. That of Nogaro has agreed to erase itself from the calendar for its benefit, knowing that it will appear there safely in 2024.
The Historic Tour 2023 calendar:
May 5 to 7: Historic Tour Dijon
May 26 to 28: Historic Tour of Albi
June 16 to 18: Historic Tour Charade
September 30 to 1er October: Historic Tour Magny-Cours
October 20 to 22: Historic Tour Val de Vienne
