Nielsen Racing will put its title back on the line

Nielsen Racing has confirmed its presence in the Middle East in February 2023 for a fifth consecutive season in the Asian Le Mans Series to defend its title, with the Centenary of 24 Hours of Le Mans as a goal, after a 2022 season where the team became champion by scoring the most points in the history of the Asian championship.

With this performance, the British team has therefore validated its ticket for a second participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans after that of 2020 (28th in the general classification). A dream debut for a newly born LM P2 program, as Rodrigo Sales, one of the three drivers of the victorious trio with Ben Hanley and Matt Bell, tells us.

“The program was actually created relatively late, the American explained to us in the Yas Marina paddock last February. It's only in the last couple of months that we've put this in place. I raced with Nielsen in Asia here last year before returning to GT with JMW Motorsport for the European season. After the last race in ELMS in Portimão, we tested an LM P2, because the team was very keen to move up to the higher category. I had a lot of confidence in the team because of my experience in LM P3 with them last year, and they had a lot of confidence in me as a driver because of my performance and the test we did. So it was a bit of a leap of faith for all of us, but so far I think it's working pretty well. The team is keen to do everything they can to try and create a very successful LM P2 program. We recognize that it is a challenge, especially when you see teams like United Autosports who have had incredible success and are much more experienced. »

Present “non-championship” for the two rounds at Yas Marina, the United Autosports team is the only one to have damaged Nielsen Racing during these two weekends of competition in the Middle East. The British team has also confirmed its presence for the next edition. According to our information, COOL Racing could also expand the 2023 field.
