ELMS / Asian – The ACO lifts the veil on the LMP3

LMP3 will be implemented next year in ELMS and in Asian Le Mans Series in order to allow new teams to gradually access the highest categories of theEndurance. Compared to the first categories, the dimensions will be reduced by 15cm in length for an identical width. The ACO ensures that performance will be there with on average lap times two seconds faster compared to the GTEs. These prototypes can be made by any manufacturer.

Le cahier des charges impliquera un cockpit fermé, un châssis carbone, la présence d’un arceau métallique, la dérive de requin et des ouvertures sur le sommet des passages de roues. Le poids total de la voiture devra être compris entre 870 et 900kg. Le moteur V8 de 420cv sera en revanche unique pour tous les châssis et sera finalisé à la fin du mois. Une boîte de vitesses semi-automatique à six rapports et avec des palettes au volant sera installé. Magnetti Marelli s’occupera du boîtier électronique. Cet ensemble sera vendu par Oreca qui assistera les écuries sur place. Les équipes seront limitées à un seul bloc moteur par voiture et par saison pour une durée de vie de 10 000km sans maintenance. D’autres pièces communes seront également imposées. Les pneus seront de taille similaire à celles exploitées en Porsche Cup

The main objective of the ACO is to offer a formula at reduced prices. The car must not exceed €195 (€000 for the chassis and €135 for the engine) with an operating cost of around €000 to €60 for an ELMS season.

“From the base to the top, we want to enable drivers, teams and manufacturers to engage in endurance,” commented Pierre Fillon, director of the ACO. “For pilots, we promote specific training based on endurance karting ? with the 24 Hours Karting? until the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Many of the last winners of this race made their mark on the circuits of Le Mans. For the teams, there was a lack of a fast, safe, inexpensive car that would allow them to better understand the discipline and then climb the ranks one by one. This LM P3 constitutes the base of our pyramid dedicated to the different LM Ps.”
