One of the team's flagship programs DragonSpeed in 2016 will revolve around the European Le Mans Series. Accustomed to GT competitions on the other side of the Atlantic, the American team decided to turn to LM P2 with an Oreca 05, winner of the category at Le Mans with KCMG.
The boss Elton Julian will be joined for this new adventure by Henrik Hedman and Frankie Montecalvo, who are already playing for DragonSpeed in the Pirelli World Challenge on a Mercedes SLS AMG GT3. “This is a step that has been planned for some time, explains Julian. Our involvement in endurance and sprint racing over the past five years has allowed us to build a strong team and develop our drivers.
I know the people at Oreca and their victory at Le Mans in June showed that they have found the right balance between speed and durability. It seemed very interesting to us to engage in ELMS, while continuing our GT program in North America. »
The racing debut of DragonSpeed's Oreca 05 is however planned on American territory, during the 12 Hours of Sebring 2016 in Florida, second round of the future IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship. DragonSpeed's European base will be established near Oreca's premises, with the first shakedown of the prototype being planned at Paul Ricard (Var).
