The European Le Mans Series continues its transformation. After the good news about a 2013 calendar seeing the championship be organized during joint meetings with the World Series by Renault, WEC or the GT Tour, the ACO, which is the new promoter, has announced that it will accept GT3s. The latter can be entered in GTC.
“It was important to provide some clarification relatively early on to the categories that will be accepted next year in the European Le Mans Series, to allow the teams to move forward with their participation plans, underlines Gérard Neveu, President of LMEM (Le Mans Endurance management). Nothing changes regarding the LM P2, LM PC, LM GTE Pro and LM GTE AM categories, but the ACO has taken the important decision to open the GTC category to the many cars meeting the GT3 regulations current in Europe . Several teams are already showing interest in entering cars in the GTC category. This decision will have a positive influence on the 2013 grid of theELMS."
On the other hand, so-called “Cup” cars like the Ferrari 430 Challenge, Porsche 911 GT3 Cup et autres Lotus Evora GT4 Enduro ne pourront plus l’être. Il y aura donc en 2013 cinq catégories en European Le Mans Series, à savoir le LM P2, le LM PC, le GTE Pro, le GTE Am et le GTC (GT3).
