The Automobile Club de l'Ouest has modified the sporting regulations of the European Le Mans Series for the 2020 season, with the main change being the method of awarding invitations for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The next continental campaign will offer invitations for the big meeting in Sarthe depending on the size of the starting grids in LM P2 and GTE. The number of access tickets will be conditioned according to the following diagrams, with at least one invitation for the LM P2 champion, and one for the GTE winner.

In 2019, the top two LM P2 teams, the LM P3 champion and the top two in the GTE standings received invitations. Other new features include:

Modification of the Safety Car procedure: “Pass-Around”

During a Safety Car procedure, if he deems it appropriate, the Race Director will authorize “Pass-Around” for any car whose category leader is behind in the order of cars circulating behind the Safety Car .

It is the Competitor's responsibility to determine if their car is eligible for “Pass-Around”. (Art 14.6.5).

Innovative car

In order to promote new technologies, the Selection Committee, at its sole discretion, may invite a Competitor wishing to enter an “innovative car” (Art 3.2.5):

– Technical aspects: defined according to the requirements and at the discretion of the ACO technical department, which may request the opinion of the FIA regarding the safety of the vehicle.

 – A decision of the European Le Mans Series Committee will detail the specific conditions for the participation of an innovative car in one or more Competitions and will be disseminated to all competitors entered.

– The competitor will participate in the non-ranking Series.

– The European Le Mans Series Committee may, at any time, revoke the invitation awarded to a Competitor entering an innovative car.

Crew composition and driving times

The presentation of the composition of the crews and driving times has been standardized in order to facilitate understanding by the teams and avoid any confusion. (Appendix 5) CLICK HERE for more details.
