Nyck de Vries at G-Drive in ELMS

It is an understatement to say that Nyck de Vries splashes his talent on the LM P2 category of WEC this season. Although part of a Racing Team Nederland trio including a bronze driver (Frits van Eerd), the Dutchman took a victory and a 3rd place in four outings.

Also convincing in Formula EAmong Mercedes, for what is his first season in the discipline, the champion F2 2019 a récemment été enrôlé par le Toyota Gazoo Racing en tant que pilote de réserve et d’essai. Dire qu’il a le vent en poupe n’a donc rien d’usurpé.

Always looking for young talent capable of enabling him to satisfy his ambitions, Roman Rusinov made no mistake and decided to hire the 25-year-old Batavian for the 2020 season of theELMS, in accordance with what we revealed to you in mid-April (see Ah n°2261).

Nyck will find on this occasion a team that he knows well, since the Aurus 01 n°26 of the Russian entity G-Drive Racing is covered by TDS Racing, which also oversees the entry of its Oreca in the WEC. The former protégé of McLaren should, however, skip the 4 Hours of Spa (August 9), due to a conflict of dates with Formula E, then in Berlin.

The third man is Mikkel Jensen, outgoing LM P3 champion, who will act as “gentleman driver”. Official BMW driver, the 25-year-old Dane is classified Silver… but is faster than some Platinum drivers!

As a reminder, De Vries being requisitioned by Racing Team Nederland in 24 Hours of Le Mans (September 19-20), he will be replaced on No. 26 by Jean-Eric Vergne, who should also be taking part in the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (August 15). G-Drive Racing plans to participate in the Belgian round of the WEC with a view to perfecting its preparation for the Le Mans double round of the clock.

First outing for this infernal trio, the 4 Hours of Le Castellet, on July 19.
