Simon Pagenaud: driver of the month

A majority of you preferred simon pagenaud to his compatriot Romain Grosjean and the Brazilian Helio Castroneves. Without a doubt, the American performances of the young Poitevin – and in particular his 2006 title in the Atlantic Series, then his successes during his debut in Champ Car and more recently, his two victories in a row in ALMS with Acura – have given him allowed us to gain a reputation across the Atlantic and recall good memories of the European environment. So, Peugeot Sport gave him a chance. At Spa, to start, with the success that we know: pole position, best lap in the race and victory with a Peugeot 908 HDi FAP just tamed. Then, to 24 Hours of Le Mans, with a faultless ride at the wheel of the 908 entrusted to Pescarolo Sport and shared with Boullion and Tréluyer. Unfortunately, the latter was the victim of an exit from the track while a podium was looming. Next goal: win the ALMS title. Ranked second by your votes, Romain Grosjean honors his status as favorite in the GP2 Series. Capable of the best (his pole and his victory in Monaco), but sometimes also of blunders (his crash in these same Monegasque streets), the Franco-Swiss nevertheless remains the best French hope of the moment to access a steering wheel of holder within the Renault Team F1 in 2010. As for Helio Castroneves, his 3rd pole position and 3rd victory at the Indy 500, after his problems with the American tax authorities, will ultimately have only caught the attention of a small number of you.

See you next week to discover the names of the three drivers nominated for the month of June.

Simon Pagenaud: 57,6%
Romain Grosjean: 26,3%
Helio Castroneves: 16,1%
