At the end of a very indecisive weekend, Andreas Mikkelsen and his co-driver Elliott Edmondson won the 55th edition of the Rally from Azores! The Norwegian, who started the last loop in second place behind Dani Sordo, won the 11th SS to regain the lead in the standings and widen a small gap with the Spaniard (+7″6). Dani Sordo had to run on worn tires and could only do better than third time. Leader after the second and third loop, he had to give in to the speed of Andreas Mikkelsen. In the fight for third place on the podium, Ricardo Moura is ahead of Efren Llarena by only 9″5, before starting the last two specials.

Andreas Mikkelsen reinforced his success during this penultimate special. The Norwegian once again won this SS, ahead of Ricardo Moura by 3″9 and his main competitor, Dani Sordo, by 6″7. As a result of the standings for this Rally, the Spaniard is 14″ behind, an almost definitive gap which dooms the driver's last hopes.

To ensure victory, the Norwegian will sign his third scratch in a row (the fifth of the day) by winning the last special, a length of 24,01 kilometers, ahead of Dani Sordo (+14″8) and Efren Llarena ( +51″7) who regains his third place on the podium to the detriment of Ricardo Moura. At the wheel of his Skoda Fabia RAlly2, Andreas Mikkelsen managed to reverse the trend as the stages progressed, after experiencing a difficult first loop.
