Giandomenico Basso triumphs at home in Rome

The double IRC champion 2006 – 2009 Giandomenico Basso remembered the good memories of the entire continental scene by winning this Sunday the Rally of Rome Capital, counting for the Europe championship ERC.

Leader last night at the end of a first stage which caused the loss of many favorites, Basso let Simone Campedelli (Ford Fiesta R5) and especially Andrea Crugnola (Skoda Fabia R5) do the show today, Crugnola winning nine of the ten specials of the day.

Basso was content to secure his 19th ERC victory, keeping Campedelli within reasonable distance of the Orange1 driver M-Sport Rally Team took advantage of the one-minute penalty imposed on Alexey Lukyanuk (Citroën C3 R5) to consolidate second place.

Trailing by 53″ at the finish, Campedelli gave the new Ford Fiesta R3 a podium for its first laps in the ERC this year. At the end of his Sunday festival, Crugnola gradually erased his delay in the fight for the podium, taking the advantage after SS5 over Lukyanuk.

Filip Mares (Skoda Fabia R5) completes the top 5 of the event and wins the ERC1 Junior category.
