Kris Meeke, after a difficult start to the season, started the Rally of Sardinia in the best possible way. The 2009 IRC winner, author of only one scratch in four special stages, showed great consistency, taking the lead from the third special stage of the day. After SS5, he was 12 and 13 seconds ahead of his closest pursuers, Paolo Andreucci and Juho Hänninen.
Best time in the first special of the day, Jan Kopecky (Skoda Fabia S2000) is fourth, but already more than 44 seconds behind the race lead. Fifth, Thierry Neuville (Peugeot 207 S2000) is more than two minutes away.
From the first special stage this Saturday, the Sardinia Rally was deprived of two best drivers in the field. Guy Wilks (Skoda Fabia S2000), made a mistake, and Sébastien Ogier (Peugeot 207 S2000), victim of a puncture and engine problems, retired.
