Mikolaj Marczyrk wins Rally Poland

the 4e The meeting of the season took place in the Masurian lake region located 250 kilometers north of the capital Warsaw. Routed around Mikolajki, the final stage included a group of three special stages to be run twice with a total of 78,24 km timed. Main opponent of Nil Solans, the leader of the event, Mikolaj Marczyk had inherited the reins of the race after the Spaniard's withdrawal yesterday in SS7. This had been one of the victims of the Polish roads which have the unfortunate tendency to deepen enormously, which creates deep rails in which the competitors cannot completely control their car. With a lead of 20s4 over Tom Kristensson, the driver from Lodz (140 km southwest of Warsaw) intelligently managed the gap until the end. Luck was also on his side. Yesterday, he hit a tree at very high speed with the only consequence being a torn off rear wing. Today, with the repeated passages in the rails, the radiator grille became stained with earth, but the crew intervened quickly enough to avoid engine overheating. With his student appearance, Marczyk (27 years old) achieved his first success in ERC. He is also the first Pole to win at home since Kajetan Kajetanowicz in 2013.

Tom KRISTENSSON / Red Bull Content Pool

In 2,e position, Tom Kristensson was satisfied with his weekend. Titled in Junior WRC in 2020, the Swede had a very complicated 2021 in WRC2 and he is looking to relaunch his career. Engaged in the Polish championship, he recorded the perfect score with the maximum number of points. He is ahead of Ken Torn who delivered a solid performance. The Estonian allows to have 3 different brands on the podium. Uncomfortable on these very fast stages (115,1 km/h average for the winner), Efren Llarena still performed well. With this 4e place in Mikolajki, the championship leader increases his lead before the next meeting in Liepaja in Latvia (July 1-3).

Laurent PELLIER / Red Bull Content Pool

Leader with a reduced lead of 2 seconds over Toni Herranen at the start of this last stage, Laurent Pellier was overtaken by the Finn who led for 3 times before the Frenchman reversed the trend again. At the wheel of his Opel Corsa, this is the French rider's second success in this category after the Canaries.
