A Kenyan wins the Safari

Favorite, the Kenyan Lee Rose had the best start before being slowed down by a puncture. More consistent, Carl Tundon took the lead during the first day ahead of British expatriate Alistair Cavenagh and Lee Rose, relegated to more than three minutes.

On the attack throughout the event, Lee Rose was never able to reverse the trend despite a series of best times. He finished third, nine seconds behind Cavenagh, himself second, more than a minute behind Carl Tundon, winner.

As for the IRC, the top eight score points for the only time this season. On the other hand, Mitsubishi took advantage of the absence of competition to score 18 points and take second place in the manufacturers' championship behind Peugeot .
