La Formula 3 Classic, a flagship discipline within the French Historical Tour Championship, was chosen by the Nogaro circuit (Gers) to award the Grand Prix prize, the 60th edition of which was held this Sunday, September 13.
Dominant of the 2020 season (he only lost one race out of eight summer events), Frédéric Rouvier was the favorite thanks to his pole position. The Frenchman, however, would have to fight against the Leone family.
The son, Davide Leone, was using the full potential of his small and rare Alba AR1 engine Alfa Romeo to threaten the championship leader, before a mechanical problem forced him to leave his role of pursuer to his father, Valerio Leone.
The latter was not going to find the opening, while a third victory on the Paul-Armagnac route beckoned to him. At the end of the 15 laps contested in oppressive heat (35 degrees), Frédéric Rouvier entered his name for the first time on the winners list of the Nogaro Grand Prix.
This historic meeting constitutes a wink because the French F3 Championship was already the high point of the Gers meeting in the 1960s, then between 1980 and 1984. At the time, François Cevert, Henri Pescarolo, Jean-Pierre Jaussaud and Jean-Pierre Jabouille stood out.
