Beginning in 1925 on Salmson 1100 cm3, this former aviator who became a mechanic on factory Salmsons began by distinguishing himself in hill climbs and Endurance. With a car designed by him, the Caban, he won the Bol d'Or at Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Yvelines) and competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
