4H of Portimão – Qualifying: Jack Aitken and Racing Team Turkey on pole

Jack Aitken took pole for the 4H of Portimão in the final moments of qualifying. Sarah Bovy became the first polewoman in the history of the ELMS.

4H of Portimão – Qualifying: Jack Aitken and Racing Team Turkey on pole

Prema needs a small point at the 4H of Portimão to secure the 2022 European title Le Mans Series. Signing pole position this Saturday was therefore synonymous with coronation for the Italian team. Led by Louis Delétraz, the Oreca 07 – Gibson n°9 in trans colorsalpinecame just 0.072 seconds away from setting the best time in the qualifying session. The Swiss was thus beaten in the final laps by Jack Aitken. The Briton from Racing Team Turkey took pole position in 1:32.375. James Allen completed the podium for Algarve Pro Racing at 0.176 seconds. The only other team that could be titled on Sunday, Panis Racing will start from fourth position. The 2022 title is therefore not yet decided…

Malthe Jakobsen is imperial in the exercise of the thrown lap in ELMS this season. The young Dane from COOL Racing thus signed his sixth pole position in as many qualifications with a lap in 1:37.100. He beat local Guilherme Oliveira (Inter Europol Competition no. 13) by 0.175 seconds and Dutchman Kay van Berlo (United Autosports no. 3) by 0.470 seconds.

In LM GTE, pole position went to Sarah Bovy for the Iron Ladies with a best lap of 1:41.888. THE Ferrari dominated this category by signing a hat-trick. The Belgian in fact dominated Giacomo Petrobelli (JMW Motorsport) by 0.028 seconds and Diego Alessi (Rinaldi Racing) by 0.127 seconds. After becoming the first polewoman in the history of WEC a little earlier in the season, during the 6 Hours of Monza, Sarah Bovy this Saturday became the first polewoman in the history of the ELMS.
