Asian Le Mans Series – Victory and title for OAK Racing at Sepang

Arriving at Sepang at the start of the week, OAK Racing Team Total and David Cheng were far from assured of the title. The French team and its Chinese resident were in fact ahead of the championships by KCMG and its British driver James Winslow. But thanks to a very effective tire strategy (they only changed the two right tires during a refueling, which allowed them to gain a whopping 11 seconds) and a Ho-Pin Tung of the great days, Rémy Brouard's men managed to win on the Malaysian track, and thus win the Teams and Drivers titles (David Cheng).

Jacques Nicolet's structure is rewarded for their efforts, having always believed in this Asian championship so desired by the ACO. The first winner of this new series, the Sarthe team finished a successful year, adding this title of Asian Le Mans Series champion to its double in LM P2 signed in 24 Hours of Le Mans last June…and his double in the LM P2 championship of WEC acquired last week in Bahrain. And to think that yesterday, at the FIA WEC awards evening in Paris, they received the special jury prize for the best team of the year.

The day's podium is completed by the Morgan-Nissan of the KCMG team of the duo James Winslow-Tsugio Matsuda and the Oreca 03-Nissan of Craft Racing at the wheel of which we found Richard Bradley, Dan Polley and Jun Jin Pu.

If the victory in GTC today went to the Ferrari 458 Clearwater entrusted to Toni Vilander-Weng Sun Mok, it is the Craft Racing team, third and fifth in the category this afternoon, which finished second in the championship behind AF Corse, titled at the end of the third contested round in Zhuhai, China. Note that the Lamborghini of Team Primemantle Aylezo of the Giorgio Sanna-Dilantha Malagamuwa-Zen Low trio and the Ferrari 458 Team Taisan Kend Endless of Akira Iida-Naoki Yokomizo-Shogo Mitsuyama respectively won in GTC Am and GTE.

Invitations to the 24 2014 Hours of Le Mans being awarded to the champion as well as the first two in the GTC ranking, the lucky beneficiaries are the OAK Racing team Total, AF Corse and Craft Racing.
