Aston Martin returns to the battle

While Pescarolo Sport only entered a single prototype for the 1000 km of the Nürburgring, the strategy of?Aston Martin fielding three LMP1s finally bore fruit. The British manufacturer took an easy victory in Germany with its trio Jan Charouz, Tomáš Enge and Stefan Mücke at the wheel of the number 007.

« We now lead the championship in the drivers and teams categories and this puts us in a much better situation for Silverstone which is a circuit which should suit our car “, declares Jan Charouz. “It was a very important race for the whole team and also for Aston Martin. We are satisfied to lead by seven points but anything can happen in the last race and the championship is by no means decided even if we are in a favorable position,” adds Tomáš Enge.

For the fiftieth anniversary of its victory at Le Mans in 1959 with the DBR1, Aston Martin set itself the objective of winning the title in Le Mans Series. With two victories on the clock in Barcelona and at the Nürburgring, the British manufacturer is now in a favorable position.

The last event of the season held on British soil at Silverstone should allow us to witness a real mano a mano between the two teams still in the running for the final ranking. Aston Martin will, however, start as favorite and will be able to settle for a fourth place with the crew of number 007 to win both titles.
