ELMS – LMP3s will arrive in Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup

The numerous LMP3s which fill the paddocks of endurance events will be able to be entered in a new Championship from 2017. The ACO has confirmed in the Estoril paddock (Portugal) where the season finale is held ELMS that the prototypes will be accepted in Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup from next year.

“It is very good news to see the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup grid expanding and offering ever more efficient space for the GT3 and LMP3 endurance teams,” declared Pascal Couasnon, director of Michelin Competition.

In order to avoid driving away the GT3 teams as was the case in the GT Tour, where the mixture of LMP3s and GT3s was not the happiest, the ACO will set up rankings, podiums and titles distinct.

“In Europe there is a growing demand for LMP3s and we have taken this into account by expanding the options for competitors to provide them with the best stage on which to compete, added Gérard Neveu, director of the ELMS and the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup. We must not forget that the proto category was created and developed by the ACO and it is a first step in this magnificent adventure that is endurance. »

The first LMP3 teams in the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup will receive an invitation to participate in the ELMS the following season. Conversely, the lowest ranked teams in ELMS will be transferred to Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup.
