Sarah Bovy was not disoriented. With the multiple showers that fell during the race on the hilly route of Portimão, the driver from across Quiévrain could believe she was in her native Belgium. She therefore did not panic during this start on a wet track.

Already the first polewoman in the history of the World ChampionshipEndurance FIA at the 6 Hours of Monza on July 10, the Brussels native wrote a new page in the history of her sport by becoming the first woman to take a pole position in ELMS Saturday in the Algarve.

“I feel confident because I believe in the team,” she explained. We prepared for the race by focusing on the long relays. It’s always a great feeling to be in pole position and it means a championship point.

I hope we can bring this hard work to fruition in the race this Sunday. This will be a very difficult race. Like I said, there are a lot of places you can make a mistake. » It is an understatement to say that the Iron Dames did not do any in the race.

After a first hour where she made sure to stay in the leading trio, Sarah Bovy left the car to her teammate Dorian Pin. The Frenchwoman, recent winner of the Trofeo Pirelli, then showed her burst of speed.

Put into orbit by a daring strategy from his team, “Pocket Rocket”, the “Pocket Rocket” as it is nicknamed, took off irresistibly. By staying on Slick tires, she held off her first pursuers by more than a lap!

« The team made the right choice of tires, recognized the Habs at the end of the race. It was tricky the first five laps, but the track dried quickly. I had a good pace compared to the others. »

From then on, Michelle Gatting only had to bring the car back to the checkered flag to allow her team to achieve this much-desired victory. With this first success for an all-female crew in ELMS, the Iron Dames have left their mark on the history of motorsport.
