The ELMS reviews its regulations in depth

The sporting regulations will change significantly for the 2019 season of theELMS the new version of which has been published.

The main change will come from the invitations to 24 Hours of Le Mans. From now on, the first two LMP2 teams will receive the precious ticket to compete in the Le Mans event in the same category in 2020.

Pit stops will be modified as mechanics will no longer be allowed to change wheels during refueling.

The GTE category will also experience changes since ballast will be put in place in order to have a Balance of Performance. This “success ballast” implemented in all races will be based on a calculation system taking into account the results of previous races as well as the positions in the Championship.

Concretely, the ballast concerning the result of the previous race will be 15kg for the 1st, 10kg for the 2nd, 5kg for the 3rd and 15kg for a non-entered car. It will be added to that of the previous race on the same principle. A 3rd ballast based on the Championship ranking will slow down the best cars with 15kg for the 1st, 10kg for the 2nd and 5kg for the 3rd. Thus, a car can be ballasted with a maximum of 45kg.

The ELMS also clarified that no temporary exemption would be granted to the composition of the crews.

Race entries will not be able to score points at the Championships.

Michelin Le Mans Cup

The ELMS support series will also evolve on several points.

The Michelin Le Mans Cup Committee reserves the right to invite a competitor presenting an innovative car, like the 56th stand at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Race entries will also not be taken into account at the Championships, with only those entered for the season being able to score points.

Competitors will be able to use an additional set of worn tires (4 sets of tires including 2 worn in LMP3 and 5 sets of tires including 2 worn in GT3).

A pit stop handicap system will be applied to the top 5 in the GT3 Championship. It will be calculated according to a complex system including the number of points scored subtracted from the number of points for the 6th, multiplied by 0,5 to obtain the number of additional seconds.
