LMS: Watts and his Ginetta take pole

The Ginetta-Zytek of the Strakka Racing team driven by Dany Watts took the first pole position of the Le Mans Series season after a qualifying session during which some favorites, including Pescarolo and Aston Martin, preserved their tires in view of the race.

While the two Courage-Oreca had opened the qualifying session and momentarily led the debates, the Ginetta Zytek (Strakka Racing) of Hardman/Leventis/Watts achieved a time of 1? 32??492 which relegates the first Oreca to almost 2??. In the process, onlyAston Martin official Primat/Ramos/Turner approach in 1:32??942. During the second half of qualifying, the two Pescarolos and the second official Aston Martin took to the track. But none will dislodge the Ginetta. The Aston Martin of Charouz/Enge/Mücke climbs to 3rd place (1) ahead of the Pescarolo-Judd of Boullion/Tinseau (33). Instructions were given to save their tires (Michelin) with a view to carrying out a double stint at the start of the race.

In LMP2, the Ginetta Zytek (Quifel ASM Team)(Dunlop) of Pla/Amaral takes the 2nd time (1:36??172) and slots in between the Lola-Judd (Racing Box)(Michelin) of Francioni/Ceccato /Piccini credited with pole position in 1'36"156 on her debut in LMS and that of Speedy Racing Team Sebah of Pompidou/Leuenberger/Kane in 1'36"328.

The first GT1 to take to the track, the Lamborghini Murcielago (IPB Spartak Racing)(Michelin) of Kox/Rusinov quickly moved to the top of the hierarchy with a time of 1:44:446, synonymous with pole position in the category. that none of the three other GT1s entered will beat. The Corvette C6 R (Luc Alphand Aventures)(Dunlop) of Alphand/Gouelard/Clairay follows in 1:45:926 ahead of the Saleen S7R (Larbre Competition) which achieves a time of 1:46:834 in the last minutes of the session.

In GT2, we are witnessing a double of Ferrari F430 en Dunlop. Celle de JMW Motorsport de Bell/Bruni (1?48??606) devançant celle du Team Modena de Garcia/Leo Mansell (1?48??666). La Porsche GT3 RSR en Michelin (Imsa Performance Matmut) from Narac/Pilet signs the 3rd time (1:48??752). A surprise given that the Porsches had dominated free practice.
