Oreca and Aston Martin in the spotlight

Absent from the 1000 km of the Nürburgring, the Oreca team concluded the season in a very good way. Le Mans Series, Sunday at Silverstone, signing the victory after starting from pole position. With Olivier Panis and Nicolas lapierre at the wheel, the Var team beat another private team, the Speedy Racing Team Sebah and its Lola B08/60 Coupé? Aston Martin driven by Marcel Fässler, Andrea Belicchi and Nicolas Cheers.

« We are very happy with this victory. The team worked very well and the strategy was perfect. This is undoubtedly the most difficult race for me », declared Olivier Panis after the race at the Eurosport microphone. His teammate, Nicolas Lapierre was also satisfied with this result. “We suffered at the start of the race and therefore changed the strategy. Olivier drove well and the team maneuvered well. I am very happy to end the season with a victory ", he added.

The first official prototype is third with the Aston Martin 007 of Jan Charouz, Tomas Enge and Stefan Mücke. This last place on the podium, however, allowed the British team to win the title, fifty years after the victory of the DBR1 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, ahead of the Pescarolo Sport team which ultimately finished second in the championship.

Starting from the back of the grid, Jean-Christophe Boullion animated the start of the race by overtaking all his opponents one by one to take the lead after the first hour of racing. The number 16 Judd Pescarolo subsequently suffered gearbox problems. Forced to return to the pits, the team lost any chance of victory after leaving 14 laps behind the leading crew. The Boullion crew? Tinseau finally finished 13th in the event.
