Spa: new Peugeot double

Peugeot, one month from 24 Hours of Le Mans, was full of confidence by winning the 1000 kilometers of Spa-Francorchamps, achieving, once again, a double. Certainly, for several months, neither Peugeot nor Audi have said they are racing to win but to prepare for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In this context, Peugeot Sport is satisfied with the work accomplished this weekend in Belgium.

However, these 1000 km were not easy. After an eventful start to the race, it was the No. 15 Audi R7 Plus which found itself in the lead due to a somewhat vague rule concerning pit stops under Safety Car regime. But the appearance of a red flag at 13:30 p.m., two hours after the start, due to a general power cut, put things back in order.

Sébastien Bourdais, in the No. 908 Peugeot 3 HDi FAP, then managed to catch up with the leading Audi, taking control of the race, before passing the baton to simon pagenaud. The latter, when the rain arrived, stayed on medium tires, an effective choice since the teammate of Lamy and Bourdais thus increased his lead to win with one minute ahead of the Peugeot n°2 of Franck Montagny and Stéphane Sarrazin.

« Fourth consecutive double for Team Peugeot Total! », welcomes Olivier Quesnel, director of Peugeot Sport, after the doubles of Le Mans, Petit Le Mans and Sebring. “ It was a very interesting race despite poor application of the regulations by the officials regarding safety cars. I hope that by Le Mans, they will improve in this area so as not to confuse the ranking. The Peugeot 908 HDi FAP showed themselves to be very competitive and their crews homogeneous, which bodes well for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Our strategy was very good thanks, among other things, to Météo France for its excellent information. It is a realization of our winter work but let us not lose sight of the fact that our priority objective is in a month? »
