Just like their Formula Renault 3.5 Series counterparts, the competitors of the European Le Mans Series had to face extremely complicated track conditions during qualifying for the 3 Hours of the Hungaroring. Many people have visited a gravel trap, like the Swiss Mathias Beche or the Austrian Christian Klien. But the big losers are Simon Dolan and Oliver Turvey, the latter having crashed Jota Sport's #11 Zytek Z38SN-Nissan into a pile of tires.

Finally the New Zealander Brendon Hartley (Oreca 03-Nissan Murphy Prototypes n°18) took pole position in 2'09"301. He is 2”093 ahead of the Swiss Patric Niederhauser (Oreca 03-Judd Race Performance n°34) and the Frenchman Nelson Panciatici (Alpine A450-Nissan n°36). Championship leader, Thiriet by TDS Racing will start seventh, just ahead of the No. 43 Morgan-Judd of Morand Racing.

The Oreca 09 FLM n°49 of the Team Endurance Challenge set the best time in the LM PC in 2'13"959 thanks to Gary Hirsch. The fastest GTC, the Ferrari 458 GT3 n°62 of Lorenzo Casé (2'17"878), allowed itself the luxury of beating the Ferrari 458 n°66 of Andrea Bertolini (2'19"363), which was the fastest speed of GTEs.
