“Too much bad driving” at Spa for Michael Benham

The 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps ended prematurely for the RLR MSport team, involved in a collision with the Algarve Pro Racing of Bradley, Habsburg and Menchaca after a first hour of the race marked by numerous accidents. Michael Benham, at the wheel when the Ligier JS P320 – Nissan was hit from behind, did not mince his words on the subject: “The way the Spa race ended is a complete joke, and quite a few discussions took place with race management during and after this event. Many believe that pilotage has deteriorated to an unacceptable level, and this must be remedied. Too much damage has been done and so many races have been compromised due to poor actions on track. What happened to us is shameful. The driver in question (Menchaca. Editor's note) received a penalty for the next race (three places on the grid in Portimão. Editor's note) and points on his good license (two points. Editor's note), but I think the sanction should be more severe. It gets to a point where you doubt your own sanity, wondering why you even bother racing at all. We failed to finish two more races despite making no mistakes, and a third was destroyed due to another avoidable incident. I accept that this is part of motorsport, but there is far too much misbehavior for it to be considered 'just' racing.
