We had to wait a few hours to be sure, but it is now official: Nielsen Racing is the champion team of the Asian Le Mans Series in the LM P2 category. With the only fully professional trio lined up this season, the British team is crowned after its two victories during the first race weekend in Dubai and its second position in Abu Dhabi this Saturday. Beaten by Josh Pierson and Paul di Resta for United Autosports, Ben Hanley, Matt Bell and Rodrigo Sales however scored the 25 points for first position as well as Friday's pole position. The United Autosports team is in fact considered “non-championship” for not having participated in the first meeting. With 78 units against 51 for Graff Racing, Nielsen Racing can no longer be joined during the last race of the season, this Sunday at 13:30 p.m. French time, still on the Yas Marina circuit. The vikings will therefore go to 24 Hours of Le Mans in LM P2 this season, with the same trio lining up in the Asian Le Mans Series for the last two weeks. Nielsen Racing is now aiming for a second invitation to the Sarthe classic via the LM P3 category.
