Ari Vatanen definitely, and forever, in the legend of Pikes Peak. The Finn is one of four drivers who were inducted into the “Hall of Fame” of the most famous hill climb last Thursday, alongside Beck Bechtelheimer, Clint Vahsholtz and Ted Foltz.
Winner of the event in 1988 aboard the superpowerful Peugeot 405 T16, the world rally champion entered the legend of Pikes Peak partly thanks to the film Climb Dance, produced by the French manufacturer at the time, but above all for his legendary pose during one of his attempts. Ari Vatanen shielded his eyes from the blazing sun by driving one-handed on the dangerous dirt track, an incredible scene that will forever be linked to the Finnish driver.
“The level of achievement, knowledge and enthusiasm of this year's inductees is incredible, said Lisa Haight, Pikes Peak Hill Climb Historian. The depth of experience of this group spans several decades, and we are pleased to shine the spotlight on these very deserving individuals by welcoming them to the Hall of Fame. » On social networks, another Pikes Peak legend, Romain Dumas, welcomed the introduction of Ari Vatanen to the “Hall of Fame” of the American event.
Glad to see that Ari Vatanen will be joining the Hall of Fame #PikesPeak. Obviously, it is more than well deserved for such a legend. It made me dream of Pikes Peak. This is a real example. At Pikes Peak, in rally and at the Dakar…. I have so much respect for him ☺️ pic.twitter.com/6AvsD3gtdS
