The Goodwood Festival of Speed traditionally ends with the Shootout, a hill climb on the narrow 1,86km climb. A year after the breathtaking record of the McMurtry Automotive Spéirling, another astonishing car won the event this Sunday July 16: a McLaren Solus GT.

The English prototype does not meet any regulations for road use, and is reserved for Track Days with McLaren supervision. Equipped with a 10 liter naturally aspirated V5.2, it develops 840 horsepower for less than a ton on the scale. Its cockpit is central and its grip is phenomenal with 1 kg of aerodynamic downforce at high speed.

As part of the Festival of Speed, driver Marvin Kirchhöfer took the wheel of the beast. The 29-year-old German achieved a climb in 45”34, one second less than his runner-up, Travis Pastrana with his Subaru GL Family Huckster (already seen at Goodwood in 2022).

“I am more than delighted, for the good reason that I did not expect to win at all, said Marvin Kirchhöfer. This is my first time at Goodwood. I would like to congratulate Travis Pastrana on his climb, it was really impressive and I had a lot of fun watching him slide through the turns! »
